Chief Risk Officer – Private Bank, Luxembourg

Our client, a prestigious Private Bank in Luxembourg, is seeking an experienced Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to lead the bank's risk management strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the bank’s risk management strategy, policies, and procedures.
• Oversee all risk management activities, including credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks.
• Ensure compliance with local and international regulations (CSSF, ECB) and internal policies.
• Lead risk assessments for new and existing products, services, and business activities.
• Prepare and present risk reports to the executive team, the board, and regulatory authorities.
• Collaborate closely with the credit department to assess and manage credit risk for high-net-worth clients.
• Work with other teams (legal, compliance, finance) to ensure alignment of risk strategies with business goals.
• Develop a strong risk culture throughout the organization by providing training and raising awareness.
• Manage relationships with external regulators, auditors, and key stakeholders.
• Provide strategic guidance on risk-related matters and contribute to the bank’s overall governance framework.

Core Competencies:

• Credit Expertise: Deep knowledge of credit risk management, including assessing the risk profiles of private banking clients.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex risk-related data, identify trends, and make sound recommendations.
• Presentation Skills: Strong ability to communicate complex risk concepts to executive management, the board, and regulators.
• Leadership: Proven experience in leading risk management teams and driving cross-functional collaboration.
• Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Luxembourg’s financial regulatory environment and international risk management standards (Basel III/IV, MiFID II, CRR).
• Decision-Making: Ability to make informed, data-driven decisions in high-pressure environments.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has a proven track record in risk management within the banking sector, strong leadership capabilities, and exceptional presentation and communication skills. You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with senior management, the board, and external regulatory bodies.

• Master’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Professional certifications (CFA, FRM, etc.) are highly desirable.
• 10+ years of experience in risk management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within private banking or financial services.
• Strong understanding of private banking products and services.
• Excellent communication skills in English; fluency in French or German is a plus.
• Proven ability to engage with regulatory bodies and senior stakeholders.
